Small trouble with XNS stream...

January 6th, 2009
  • hello, today i finally decided to switch from xbmp to xbmc. i already have some experience setting up an xns stream with xbmp, and i did get it working in xbmc. i'm just having one bit of trouble, and i need some help. (i'm using relax).

when i add a direct link to a file into relax, lets say a video file, it works fine, and plays fine. but when i add a link to a folder into relax, i can see the folder when i go to my xns share in xbmc, but unlike xbmp where i was able to browse the files in that folder, with xbmc it either goes back to a listing of my xbox hdd partitions and network shares, or just displays ".." as in to go back to the listing of partitions, etc.

i've ruled out most of the obvious things... there are files in the folders ive specified to relax, and al of my settings seem to be correct. has anyone had similar problems in the past, and does anyone have a remedy?

  • don't use relax. it won't work with xbmc.

use ccxstream or smb (windows file sharing) or another streaming protocol.

    but not relax.

  • real simple:

do not use xns/relax with xbmc if you have alternatives! and for you guys it sounds like there are.

    they are

    1. smb
    2. ccx

  • hi!
i have a very similar problem.
i used a xbmc from january andy xns with rlea works fine.
but every time i try to use a newer version it doesn work.
i see the the shared folder like 'movies' and it is empty...
i dont know what iam doing wrong. i tried media file xstream and ccxstream, every time the same problem.
anyone know where this problem can come from? *:help:

    edit:
    nobody has an idea?

  • mmmh it's a pity, to my experience relax and xns were working best (fastest) with xbmp....

didn't get smb to work yet, maybe the new samba code will be faster then the old xbmp's smb.

actually, relax does work with xbmc; once you get the ".." prompt click on it and wait... (eventually click again after a few seconds).
with a little bit of patience i always get to the upper level directory listing, then you can go back down to the directory you wanted. the xns streaming runs smoothly as usual ;-)

  • thanks for your help guys. ive switched to using media file xstream, and it works great (sometimes takes a second though)
