Getting married in America and then moving to England?

January 6th, 2009
  • We are getting married in America this spring, and then we are moving to England a few months later. We are trying to work out what to do about registering here in America, and then shipping things over to England. If anyone has any suggestions for someone who does this, or can recommend a company that would be great.

  • If you're talking about shipping regular parcels, you can use Fedex and I think DHL & UPS services. Of course, there's the US postal system--you just have to shop around for rates. It's going to get expensive, only ship what you really need, you can buy everything you need in the UK, and don't forget that any electrical items will have a different wattage and a different plug--so won't be worth shipping.

If you're talking about furniture & large amounts of stuff--you can look in the phone book for international shippers.

Why not have people give you gift cards that you can use in the UK--like prepaid Visa, or store cards that they can order on-line and you can shop in the UK. (LIke Marks & Spencers, TKMaxx (like our TJ Maxx) ?? Then you can get what you really need, when you're ready for it. Even IKEA is here, and in the UK--you can find all your household stuff.
