its a windows vista i got it about two years ago, i use limewire, its a gateway laptop, and lately when i turn it on it doesnt work. sometimes it starts to but then it gets stuck. i couldnt even get it on at all yesterday, and sometimes it asks me if i want to restore my computer so i say yes then it starts to do all this stuff. it starts to restart but it doesnt it completely turn on. should i trash it? or can i get it fixed, or even fix it my self? thanks 4 ur time It sounds like you got hit with something nasty. I personally had bad luck with limewire. I get tons of spyware from just installing it. I would do a repair install of windows from the disks that gateway gave you (or now a days, the one you should have burned when you first booted up). It should erase your Windows files and keep your files and settings, although it will hobble along, whatever infected your computer can still be there. The best is to reformat and reinstall windows. It'll be like you just bought the computer all over again! but you lose your data.
Be careful with gateway disks, sometimes they aren't a real copy of windows but restore disks. Restore disks typically don't allow you to do a repair install.
If you can pull the drive, I would see if I can hook it up to another machine as an external drive and have that computer do an antivirus check. It might help, but I'm not expecting much from doing that. is it a pc or a mac? where does it get stuck? what are u doing when it does? #If you have any other info about this subject , Please add it free.# |
