Laptop is running extremely slow after a windows xp and i tunes update. Unable to restore before this date ?

  • I downloaded and ran Spybot which took almost 15 hrs to run. Ccleaner. I Have McAfee security that when it scans it takes about the same amount of time. I dont know what to do to get the laptop back to normal. Please Help!


  • iTunes can easily be reloaded. So remove it completely and see what effect that has.

    Try CCleaner's Registry repair function.

    The XP update remains a culprit if the foregoing does not work.

    MS is still supporting XP owing to Vista hatred by many. Real Vista problem is faulty explanation of changes and attitude most users are so stupid they should be told as little as possible.

    XP running slow likely to have fix somewhere on MS website detectable by googling 'slow XP problem' and finding link that helped other users.

    Such advice best found from other XP users, not directly from MS where there is zero personal help without a substantial payment.

    Could also be some knock head hang up between your McAfee and the XP now there.

    Turn off McAfee and see if problem changes. If so, ask McAfee Help about this.

    Sorry, I never used XP, answer not perfect, but based on much OS, PC, software, electronics experience.

    Do a Defrag too.

    Also your PC may have software and all that is okay, but has some Trojan-like virus or sneaked in malware.

    Use Task Manager to see what is running after your PC is started.

    Scan your PC with SuperAntiSpyware Free Edition.

    I have never had much formal training at all, virtually zero help from others. Yet, I always managed to find and fix all such problems.

    Just keep hammering away at it, kinda per the above.

    Problems that take two weeks to solve are rare, but do happen occasionally. That calls for rest periods between your onslaughts.

    Finally, it could be an electronics problem where a chip has become defective conincidentally at the same time your software changes were made.

    If you cannot solve it, do you have a Geek Squad friend? Offer money...

    Or, take it to Geek Squad...

    But try to fix it yourself first, that often works and saves moola!!

    NOTE: If your PC does any self-tests, has software for that or for performance checking, use those.

    Some items may be on Set Up screen accessible by pushing F8 key on boot up. Caution !! do NOT change anything here you do not know about. If you do change anything, try ONE at a time and put it back the way it was if no improvement. But sometimes there are test modules there that give results or even tell what it wrong. Copy findings to share with Geek for opinion.
