  • Ah just rub some dirt on it you'll be fine. If worst comes to worst use a little Windex.

  • Try not to worry too much. It sounds like you have a chalazion. A chalazion is a cyst within the eyelid which is caused by a build up of oil within the glands in the eyelid. You should try using warm compression and massaging the cyst (you are trying to squeeze the oil out so if you see any creamy stuff coming out...thats good).
It can take a while for the lump to shrink.
Removing it isnt too bad. It is done with you awake and you feel a sting from the local anaesthetic. After that, it should be totally numb and so you wont feel any pain when they do the procedure. Also, it is over pretty quicky.

If you are not too squeemish, there is a video of how the surgery is done.

  • I worked as a tech for an ophthalmology for 18 yrs and assisted many times with removal of these lumps---What you describe sounds like either a stye which is an infected lash follicle usually along the lashline of the eyelid or what's called a chalazion which is an infected gland on the underside of the eyelid. Styes can sometimes turn into chalazions. But sometimes styes can go away with using lid scrubs to clean the lash area and/or warm compresses. Chalazions usually require excision as they become swollen with pus and blood---yes its pretty gross!. This involves flipping your eyelid inside out and then holding it with a clamp--then you will be numbed with an injection and the pus and blood "scooped" out. Once you are numb obviously you don't feel a thing---ask the doc for a topical numbing drop to be used on your eyelid before the injection and you'll have nothing to worry about. The down side is that the problem could return and you may just be prone to these glands becoming clogged periodically. Take your parent with you to ease your worry. Good luck!
