Outpost and WinProxy 4

January 8th, 2009
  • Hi

at the moment I run a small network using the 192.168.xx.xx range. The machine that is connected to the internet runs ZA Pro and WinProxy 4. My own machine on the network uses Outpost Pro and all connections to the internet are via the network and through the proxy. Yes (call me paranoid) each machine within the firewalled network also runs its own firewall.

I am now considering removing ZA pro from the proxy machine and replacing this with OP Pro. Basically so I only have to remember how to use one Firewall app and because I have been very impressed with OP. Are there any issues I should be aware of before I go ahead and make this change?

    TIA

    John

  • Just male sure that you remove all traces of ZA first and you shouldn't have any problems. See David's ZAP to Outpost migration tutorial (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4355) then David's ZAP Uninstall / Outpost Install Instructions (http://www.outpostfirewall.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=4353). Pleaese let us know how it goes and if feel free to ask if you need help.

  • Thanks for the help Megahertz

I have now removed ZA and the Internet Connection Sharing (via WinProxy) machine now uses Outpost.

Initial views are that connecting and connections to the internet are quicker. Very subjective but it was the first thing I noticed.

The connection process seems far more stable and I rarely get a client lockout now. With ZA I was getting a failure to connect to the internet from a client machine on the network a couple of times a day. Again, I have not quantified this but I cannot recall not getting a connection since OP has been installed.

So, would not like to say it does everything as I am only a few days into running it on the server machine but an early view is very positive.
