Why is England the greatest nation in the history of Mankind?

  • discovered Australia, owned America, had the biggest empire EVER, saved the world from Hitler, make the best music and thought of most inventions that we all use. Amazing for such a little island huh?

  • I noticed that all the accomplishments you list are past tense yet you asked why England IS the greatest nation in history. Your history is not very accurate either, England didn't discover Australia, like many places there were people living there when Europeans arrived. In terms of land mass the Soviet Empire was bigger and realistically they provided some help for the American and Russian forces in defeating Hitler. One thing you said was accurate, England once owned America................how did that work out for you?

  • Well, ok I can some what agree with what your saying, but mainly your looking at a lot of positives you also have to take in the concepts of fairness when comparing countries, such as you can't say Japan lead and still leads the world in electronically advancement without also saying that they did partake in much of World War 2. So in all fairness no country can be the greatest nation in history because all have had their ups and downs. But then again you are entitled to an opinion =P.


  • England sucks to live in right now, but it was a great empire. America has had a lot of opportunities to be a great empire, but from the attitude of people here, I doubt it's going to last. People in America are beyond ignorant, and proud of it. It's embarrassing. Whenever Americans occupy another country, they are hated by the locals. If you are a foreigner that has moved here, you will know why. Underneath the flash, big, expensive buildings and cars are some of the most ignorant, brainwashed people you'll ever regret knowing in your life. Who else in the world is more antagonistic than an American, other than maybe the French? It was so refreshing to go to Australia, where people remembered what it was like to be a human being and enjoy life.

    A lot of people in the colonies didn't like the English, but to me, it seems like they treated their subjects well and gave them the skills to operate well without them. America is a nice, attractive country, but many foreigners that move here for that reason soon realize the people are more backwards than anyone they ever knew back home.

    It makes you wonder how long this place has until it becomes like a third-world country.

  • You mean Britain, not England. England's acheivements were not nearly as impressive as those of the British Empire.

    That little point aside, I would agree in terms of influence on the modern world in terms of Art, Science, Architecture, Inventions, Politics, Military then, yes, it has been the greatest

    With regards to WW2, if any one country could be said to have won it, it was the Soviet Union by far.

  • Okay, I'm an Anglophile but even I wouldn't argue that they were the best in the history of mankind. However, to add weight to their amazing contributions, let's not forget:

    English Common Law - the foundation of our modern justice system and the concepts of jury by peers, innocent until proven guilty, and all men (even kings) are subject to the law

    great contributions to human knowledge including the 'discovery' of longitude which is why the Prime Meridian runs through Greenwich; the physics of Isaac Newton

    art and architecture from Gainsborough to Sir Christopher Wren

    amazing military heroes who saved the world from Napoleon: the Duke of Wellington and Admiral Nelson (I had to touch his sarcophagus in St. Paul's even though you're not supposed to)

    And perhaps their two greatest contributions: High tea and Monty Python. :)


  • saved the world from Hitler? not really. I don't think anyone saved the world from Hitler. they just lost most of their men in Russia from the freezing cold. I agree they make the best music or did anyway.
