What genre/genre's is the most helpful for studying?

    the best study music has no distracting words, and is calming.

    new age would work too, but i find that music boring..


  • Dont listen to music at all there are three types of brain waves Alpha( the one we use to study with) Beta (the one we have fun with) and Gamma (The one we use to sleep and dream with). When you listen to music and do homework your in beta, and you have to be in alpha in order to retain the information, if you have problems studying take a 10 min break and go back at it.


  • My professor, who has a PhD in Psychology, told us that you should study in silence, if you are going to take a test in silence (which is most often the case). He said that if you listen to music you subconsciously associate the music to what your are studying, and then when you take the test you can't recall the information that you studied as well if there is no music.

    He also said that the study also said that if you study drunk, you're better off taking the test drunk versus sober, because you would be in the same "state." But, don't do that.

    I suggest, as boring as it is, to study in silence, I've found that even studying at a desk in an empty classroom works the best, because that's where you'll be when your tested on the info you are studying.



  • Reading because if you can read you can do anything, you can read how to do it, even math.

  • Classical actually beethoven has proved to make ppl smarter.

    Though my choice is pop/orchestra sounds strange but its good!

  • i think everyone has different taste...it's up to you...mine is rock and alternatives


  • Don't worry about genre.
    Choose any, and look up instrumentals in the category you like.
    Pick which would suit your subject.
    Lyrics can distract.
