Can I just put a Raw pot roast in the water with seasoning? Then add the potatoes and carrots about 2 hours before its done in the same juice? with out getting sick?
Or if you can think of another way to do it in slow cooker thanks! You need to sear it in skillet both sides. I put on high for hour then low to finish if at home. Vegs can finish in 1 hour. I like add package brown gravy mix.
see more on recipie at allrecipies.comBrown the roast first on each side, then lightly coat it in flour. Stick it in the crock-pot and top with vegetables you are using.. I recommend potatoes, onions, celery, carrots, and even tomatoes (a can of the diced kind works fine ), Then I would season with some of the goodies you have on your spice shelf. Oregano, parsley, some basil works great too. Salt & pepper liberally. A slow cooked pot roast should not be tied to one strict recipe. We use what we have, add a little of this & a little of that as we go and WHALLAH, it's always delicious. I like mushrooms & put a little hot sauce in mine as well. You can use just water, or you could also add some beer, wine, or even add one of those beef top ramen packets for the juice flavor. Good luck! I do it exactly as you explained. If you cook it in the oven or on top of the stove you cook the vegetables in the same water as the roast too. As long as the meat is well cooked you will not get sick. You can add the veggies when you put the roast in or wait until later, but remember it is a slow cooker and may take longer than 2 hours to cook them to a tender point. You can do it that way. That's the way I do it!The vegetable cook slower so put them on the bottom of the slow cooker pot. Brown the roast for the best flavor and then place the roast over the veggies. Add the liquid. Cover. Cook.Usually you put all your veggies in first and set the roast on top of all the veggies all at the same time (at the beginning)- they are SOOO good - will be the best veggies you've ever had.
Also, I pour 1/4 c. of boiling water over my roast once I put it in the crock pot, just to seal all the juices in. Then I usually rub a little olive oil on it and dump a whole lot of Montreal Steak Seasoning on it - or you can use whatever you want.
