I have enjoyed researching your question. You are correct that there is an immense amount of “information” that comes up when using the key word “diabetes.”
I found:

I began my research by visiting Rick Mendosa’s diabetes directory. Mendosa has catalogued diabetes resources for several years and contributes his research to the American Diabetes Association. http://www.mendosa.com/diabetes.htm

Though there are no trustworthy statistics specific to most visited diabetes websites, Mendosa also wrote an article titled “Diabetes Searches with Google” that appears on the American Diabetes Association website. According to this article:
“Google combines PageRank with sophisticated text-matching techniques to find pages that are both important and relevant to your search. I based my own categorization of sites roughly on Mendosa’s then did my own searches. Obviously there is some degree of overlap. For example, some non-profit and company sites also show up under a search for diabetes research sites. I have included example sites under each category heading. Then I refined according to particular products such as: “insulin” and “glucose Monitors”
To find Organizations: “Diabetes” “organizations” then clicked on similar pages on the ADA link
To find Charities: “Diabetes” “non-profit”
To find Personal Pages: “Diabetes” “Pages”
To find Hospitals: “diabetes” and “hospitals” then hit similar pages on hospital links
