Remedial math - for websearcher Best answer on the web

  • First, thank you websearcher for your excellent answers to my questions.
As you can see from my previous questions, I'm rather math-challenged. I need remediation. Can you suggest some (preferably free) websites that can help me re-learn my basic math skills? Now, I'm no dummy, and I'm a pretty quick study. I just have not concentrated my time on math, and I need to improve my skills.
A great answer would start with basic algebra and work up to higher math.
Thanks in advance for what I am certain will be an excellent answer. :-)

  • Oh...and I misspelled "guaranteed" above. Looks like I need to work on my spelling as well as my math!

  • Hello ddelphi,

I've found a few sites that will definitely help you:

http://www.math.com - The World of Math Online
This site's homework help section includes subjects in basic math, everyday math, pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, statistics, calculus, and even more advanced topics. It also includes a practice area and additional areas including a place to ask an expert and play games. This seems like a great starting place as it is one of few sites that goes in-depth with the basics.
    http://www.sosmath.com - SOSMathematics.com
This site starts at algebra and skips over the more basic math that you may be interested in at first, but it is extremely in-depth, and covers topics from algebra to calculus and beyond using notes much like one would see in school.
    http://drmath.com - DrMath.com
This site is quite popular, and includes many sample problems and resources, but doesn't seem to strictly teach subjects as clearly as the above two sites. However, it's a good spot to learn more once you re-learn the basics.
    http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ - MathWorld
This site is quite complex, but attempts to include all aspects of mathematics. It has a huge variety of topics beginning with Algebra.
Please let me know if additional help is needed.

  • Ah! I'm very sorry about that, for you and websearcher...I didn't realize that you had meant it to be a for a specific person, but rather thought that just meant a websearcher in general, not "websearcher-ga." I suppose I should have realized after the first line of your question, but apparently I didn't read that very carefully. Is there some sort of way I can can cancel this questions so that websearcher can get it? If not, I apologize again, and I'll be sure to read more carefully next time.

  • Well...I can see where a researcher might have assumed I meant any searcher of the web rather than "websearcher-ga." My fault for not being clear. Never the less, your answer to my question satisfied my criteria for an excellent answer, so I am rating it "five stars." I will simply have to come up with another question for websearcher-ga at another time. Here is a modest tip for you. Enough for a cup of coffee, which will help you be more awake next time. :-)

  • Oh yes....five stars and a tip is guarenteed!

  • Thank you for the websites, but this question was directed specifically to websearcher, and you are not s/he. Is websearcher no longer answering questions for ga? I really wanted websearcher to answer my question so that I could reward him/her for answering previous questions.

  • Hey chis, you handled that quite nicely!

Why don't you join us in the researcher forum (there's a link in your Researcher newsletter) I hear there are some cookies there to go with that cup of coffee.
And ddelphi, thanks for your understanding.

    -K~
