who has a bass no one on this board has? Best answer on the web

  • who here has a bass so unique no one else on this board owns one?

    jason

  • My Tobias 6 has an Alembic pup and preamp, with a custom made pickguard. My custom built 6 has Tobias pup and Seymour Duncan preamp, also with custom made pickguard. All work by yours truly.

  • My bass has a pretty interesting story to it. I emailed Phil Kubicki about my "Blaster" bass and he said back in '85 he started a project to license import models of his ex-factor bass to Japan. So he had a prototype made but then the project fell through and someone stole the prototype from him. And that is the bass that I have now. Sorry I don't have any pictures.

  • Take your pick....

  • looks like a schecter stilletto to me

Looks a whole lot more like a Jerzy Drozd than a Schecter.

  • I have a 1982 Gibson Victory Custom 4 string.

Its called a custom because it had two pickups, like the active electronic gibson victory artist, but no active electronics.

I LOVE IT...I bought it new 18 years ago and still play it!

Actually, to tell you the truth, i had the kahler installed extra. I called around at some stores and i don't know if you've ever heard of Zapf's Music, but they had one in stock and to top that off, i got it for $50. Not bad at all.

  • That looks like a killer bass!

It is. I thought about what would be my perfect bass, then bought all the parts and put it together.

With the MFD and the PBR-1 pre it is a very hot bass. I have to keep the volume below 5 to keep it clean.

    I love the instrument, anyhow.

Please reply to the following thread if you have an idea what kind of bass this may be.

  • My friend and I made a fretless bass in an hour out of an old JT neck. I'll post pics later. It's haggard. AA Batteries for saddles, duct tape all over the place. It's awful...and I love it.

  • It is likely pretty safe to say that no other TB'ers are sporting a Ric 4004LK :smug: ......

  • I think I'm probably the only one with an Ibanez Gio P/J. It wants to be cool but it isn't.

  • I can stroll down to the shop and steal it anytime though :) (but then I got some pretty slabs of wood instead of a bass, I think I'll wait till Pete is finished lol)

How many strings will that have? Sweet looking bass BTW...

  • Here is my Spector Euro-6 LX Fretless. The only one in existance.

I also have this Jackson JPB-9. This IS the one from the Jackson custom shop archives. I have no idea if this is the only one or not, but I've never seen or heard of another one. Their are a few JPB-7 and 8's out there though. I also have a JPB-7 but I know of at least 2 or 3 others.

  • Not exactly earth shattering in its originality, but I don't know if any other Sadowsky P5's exist with just a single P pup. Actually I don't know of any other TBers who have a Sadowsky P5 with PJ. Of course Jim S. has a gorgeous spalted P4, so I'm not the only Sadowsky P-bass owner.

  • I have an all origional, except for the knobs, Crown viola bass.

It has the body of an eko viola bass, the headstock of an ampeg scroll bass, and totally bizaire pickups, I will try to post a picture here soon. It gets a fair amount of work in "acoustic" coffehouse gigs. Very uprigty and mccartney sounding.

  • Dunno if it counts or not since it`s luthier made

but I guess nobody has one of these

  • I'll play too.

  • Nice! The Reverend Rumblefish fan in me loves that Surfcaster. I should have bought one when they first came out.

If you're really interested, here's a place that has four of them. Scroll down, down, down. His prices are high, though.

    http://diamondstrings.com/inventor.htm

  • I'd say a lot of guys who hang in the luthier's section have one of a kind basses they built for themselves.

Take me for example.I just finished this one a couple of days ago, minus the knobs that is.

Members like Hambone, toonman, Teej and tjclem (I'm sorry I don't know your real names)

have all done some pretty cool stuff too.

  • I know for a fact that I have the only Fabregues bass fretted or fretless that looks like this.it was made for me by Pepe Fabregues in Puerto Rico.

    maple neck

    Gaboon Ebony FB

    35"scale

    Ash body

    Bartolini p-up

    Bartolini pre

one volume knob/push pull tone select

    Hipshot hardware

    and light as a feather.

this is what I asked for and he has no plans to make another one.

  • I have 3 I'm sure nobody else on here has...a Guitar Factory (made in Orlando by two guys who used to work with Michael Tobias when he was in Orlando) 5-string, a Guitar Factory 4-string with Kahler whammy, and a Bradley Steinberger copy.

Actually, all my basses are basses nobody else has because they're all in my house and I claim sole ownership ;)

Gard has two Guitar Factory sixers, one fretted, one fretless.

    Quoting myself from another thread:

"Fretless 5-string made by a local luthier. Very good instrument for the price. Much better than many american cheapos. Shame on the brand name: HONDA (prize to originality). I think every guitar and bass player in my town has suggested this guy to put his last name on his instruments ("Navarro"), but he's convinced that foreign names sell more instruments. Maybe he's right, but Honda?"

  • And then there's me with my trusty 1963 Epiphone Embassy.....

  • Actually 2 here. Not an 88, an 87 3B I have owned since 1991.

Mine still has the original black tuners and Jackson bridge. How much do the new tuners and Badass help out? I need to find a few pics of mine... The finish is insane!

Aha! Found an old one posted somewhere:

  • A 1970 Hofner 5000/1 Deluxe Bass. Found used in Lawrence, KS with original active circuitry a la carte.

    http://homepage.mac.com/elmaestro/.Pictures/Equipment/hofner1m.jpg

Tacoma ABG in Flamed Koa with Mahogany neck, Abalone/Flamed Maple trim. The original owner told me he got it from Oklahoma Vintage Guitar and that OVG had Tacoma do a low run of these koa models.

    http://homepage.mac.com/elmaestro/.Pictures/Equipment/tacoma1.jpg

Surine Regency Series II fretless through-neck 6-string, 36" in Cocobolo. This owner told me he was a personal friend of Scott Surine's and that after Scott delivered the beast, he found it impossible to play. It is pretty hard to play this thing! H. Mahogany hollowed body, maple neck.

    http://homepage.mac.com/elmaestro/.Pictures/For%20Sale/surine17.jpg

My pride and joy, a 2001 Fodera custom Edward model 6-string. Apparently an eccentric NYC bassist commisioned Fodera to make him identical 5 and 6 string Edward model basses in all black (to match his all-black wardrobe). He sold the 6 shortly after taking delivery.

    http://homepage.mac.com/elmaestro/.Pictures/Equipment/edward1.jpg

Joey told me this is not only one of the few Edward models in existence but also one of the only solid-color basses they've ever constructed. Many of their all-white basses are actually solid tops of holly. The Edward model was originally conceived by Ecuadorian bassist Edward Mozina in 1999. This bass features a 2-inch thick Honduras Mahogany body, 3-piece maple neck and old-growth ebony for the fingerboard and headstock facing, custom Bartolini dual-coil pickups, Pope 3-band 18v pre with dual/single-coil switch.

  • My bass is to be described as a Modulus Moses Jazz Custom Bass. It's kind of unique (even though it has already been owned by another Talkbass member).

  • Hmm, anybody else have a 'No Sweat' by Mr. Bassman? (stupid name - great bass...predecessor of the Human Base Jonas and BaseX models)

  • I have a Danelectro DC fretless, of course, its not a good fretless, i havent even put the finnish on it yet, and its been a good 5 months since i defretted it. Oh, and the input jack has been bad for about a year now.

  • That thing is beautiful, But what the hell are all the switches for??? And knobs(besides volume and tone) for?

From a rather foggy memory due to gutting most of it and adding an active pre of my own build (when I was young and . . . less bright).

There's a rotory tone knob that went from a bypass to various levels of useless mud (Varitone), Volume/Volume, Tone/Tone, master volume, pup parallel/series switches, pup phase switches, pup selector. It was all rather bothersome so as I said bypassed the nasties and it sounds great!

Just trying to get up the nerve to use it in Church one day!

I think it's the #115 serial number that makes it unique :p .

  • I've seen a couple of threads asking about these, but I seem to be the only TB'er who has one. Semi-hollow, hot single coil pickups, 34" scale, and incredible, hard-hitting tone. Mine's gold.

  • I have a cheap, but great bass. It's a Fernandes APB4. It is discontinued now and there's a model called gravety that looks the same, but is cheaper.

Iv'e tried a lot of basses, but none of them beat my fernandes when it comes to playability. Mine is red but i got no pic of it. If you get a chance try one out!

  • I've one the really old Aria Pro II XRB series. I have never seen another one anywhere. I am pretty sure there is another one somewhere. I mean what are the odds of having the one and only production line bass in this series???

  • I have a Ibanez SR-390....The only other person I know of that has one is guy from MF.

    Can't touch this! :D

  • Hmm. If I am the only one on this board with this bass, I am on this board too, so I can't say "no one on this board has" one. Hurray, that student loan was well worth it. Here's one I haven't seen anyone else with:

    SPIDEEEERS!

  • Man I thought I was cool and unique...I thought only quadzilla had a LeCompte...oh well...at least Im one of 4 (or 7) people to have one...that's still cool lol

  • here ya go....My Schecter AB 1 plus.

  • I have 2.

I have a fernandes custom that I found used, it's a freak, looks like a BC rich mockingbird, but with totally different electronics and inlays and some other silly stuff. It is similar to the mockingbird, but different.

That's my old bass, barely use it.

My main bass is a one of a kind fodera monarch 4 string neck through with block inlays and bartolini single coil pickups on the original fodera circuit(only 4 string monarch ever made with this config). All of that is unique enough, but here's the kicker. This 4-string is a 36" scale. :D

  • I have a Kramer Artist 650 aluminum neck.it's one of the best sounding basses I have ever played. This is the second 650 I have owned.

  • My warwick is cool! It was bought before you could get them in the states in a corvette pro-line custom with swamp ash body!95 model! I also have a fender p-bass frettless that is a little unique it went through a disaster and i had to rebuild it! Was a custom paint job and basslines pickups and a badass bridge! I will take a pic of her tonight and post it! But here is a pic of my old warwick!

  • Nice instrument, Keith. That horn is so long, it looks like it might balance almost vertically! Padauk good.

    Thanks Peter

You are right, the bass balances very well indeed, it is also very very light. There is alot of tone in this bass and I believe the padauk and mahogany body wood along with the graphite neck and the electronic package makes for a nice combination.

It does not sound very musicman like to my ears which is a suprise but I have that base covered with my SR5 so all is good. ;)

Actually the Kingston 5 is kinda unquie as it has a highly flamed maple fingerboard. I think it was one of the first made or something. Tim Cole owned it first and it is one of the best basses i've played. Simply amazing.

  • I don't know of anyone else who has a Read Custom Model P here. Atleast not one with the same color scheme. At that, I don't think I've seen too many white/white pearl pg/rosewood P's either.

Its actually modelled on a Ken Smith (as hard as that is to see from the photos), but I agree there is a JD look about them. However, its pretty unlikely that the luthier ever saw a JD bass when mine was built (2000/01). The design as far as I am aware awas just an evolution of his previous designs.

  • A squier Jazz bass, made in Korea, defretted mid 80's black with the pickguard removed and screw holes filled in and a dodgy epoxy job on the neck, this is the one with the machine heads that turn the other way. Certainly unique Partly my own creation and the previous owners. Killer tone and growl however. Sorry no photo

After fooling aroung with the amps,i was shown a black octave(4x2) 8 string bass. It sort of had a Gibson SG,or 335 body shape. Has anyone seen this bass? Who owns it? Was it a one-of-a kind?

    I found this:http://www.answers.com/topic/acoustic-control-corporation

  • well im new here, but ive been looking at this website for a while and reading reviews and posts here so i thought id join. I own an Epiphone Non-Reverse Thunderbird from the mid 90s, with Dimarzio split P humbuckers in the middle. And thanks Mark, I can't wait. Looks like electronics gonna be purchased next week, and shells for the pickups being made as well. Its still a ways out (few months).

  • I'm pretty sure this is the only six string fretless these guys ever made. I've also redone the electronics a couple times including the control plate, so definately one of a kind.

  • I know that nobody has one of these:

    :D

    - Dave

  • this is the one antipop mentioned

  • you mean other than me? ;) :D

  • With some modifications, I see! ;)

Mine still has the original black tuners and Jackson bridge. How much do the new tuners and Badass help out? I need to find a few pics of mine... The finish is insane!

I cant really answer that because it was setup that way when I bought it (except for the Hipshot D-Tuner). I haven't found anything yet that has moved me enough to retire it yet though. Great stable neck and it plays incredible.

  • I have a Renaissance SPB Smoked Plexiglass bodied bass made in 1978, that's way cool and I don't think anyone else in TB-land gots another.

I'm not generally a betting man but on this, maybe a buck. No--- poker isn't betting it's a study of the odds and human nature.....

  • I think I am the only one here with a Trace Elliot T-Bass.

I'm sure no one has one like this. MIM Jazz neck, P body, G&L MFD pickup, Raven Labs PBR-1 preamp, Hipshot ultralight tuners, Fender Americam Deluxe bridge. Plays great, sounds great.

I think that nobody on this board owns any of these three basses on the right.

  • Now that I have a picture to make it real...

    http://www.synmicro.com/prod/itempics/personal/dave/mine/front_layout2.jpg

Ahhh... But you don't actually -have- it...

    ;) :p

  • Technically we all have a bass noone else has...noone else owns MY Squier. Noone else owns JTs Conks. Noone has THAT Tung

    Makes ya think, duddinit?

Im lovin the tiger striped explorer!

Fred- what program are you using for yer virtual bass?

No one is two words. Noone is the lead singer of Herman's Hermits.

  • Hondo Flash by Harry Fleishman or.....

    Washburn B-20-8 8 string...

    Take your pick!

  • Steinberger "M" Series.

The 3-yr-old in the photo won't even let me take the bass out of its case without him touching it, so he's in it too.

  • A non-'burst teal Lakland 55-94 Deluxe. I know. Lame.

    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1242593&a=9178784&p=38392855

  • I've got a Brawley 6 string over here, and I don't think anyone has one.

  • I do. This is a custom Aria Pro II with active EMGs and it's an Explorer with Tiger Stripes. Also, there is a signature on it from Gene Simmons.

    Also, fhodshon, nice bass. :)

  • One of my Unique basses:

    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1509267&a=11399790&p=40336970

Warmoth body + neck, Schaller bridge, 4 Gotoh tuners + 1 Gibson, Bartolini pickups with TBT circuit.

    What's so unique about it?

It used to belong to Scott Henderson from Tribal Tech.

    Will C.

  • I dont think anyone else has my Custom Ernieball Musicman SUB 5 string..

    http://metaltabs.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3949

  • Nobody's got this:

That looks like a killer bass!

  • Well, 2 other guys on the board here have Takamine Solid Body Electrics, but both of them have the Flying V Shape. As far as I know I'm the only one with the Explorer style, but I'm looking for anyone else who has either or any others!!!

    http://home.comcast.net/~tlajoie/TB/Takamine.jpg

Man, if you ever, ever, EVER up and sell that, you talk to me first, right?

I didn't think I had anything all that rare, but I always forget this one. It's an '86 Thunderbird II. According to Gibson, it was probably a special order (there wasn't a custom shop then). They did a small run of these in 84-85. I've seen pictures of two others, both from websites in Japan (one black, one burst). This is the only one I've seen in person. Nice bass, too. :)

  • I've got two. A turd brown sunburst and a Ltd Edition candy apple red, both four stringers. Fantatstic basses. :bassist: :bassist:

Wow. I thought I was the only one. You need to help me out and jump in here when I am talking about how great they are. Some people don't seem to buy it.

Do you have pictures? I have seen the candy apple red ones. They look slick with the cream pickup covers with exposed pole pieces.

I guess I should post this picture also.

  • I havent found any results when searching so I do believe I am the only T-Ber who owns a Westone ThunderII.

I cant remember my password for my image hosting site so you all will just have to believe me!!! :hiding:

  • My beloved Teisco.

  • My Oakland ZXB200 is the only one I know of in the US and one of only two I know of in the world but I'm sure there's a few out there.

  • I used to own a Samick Fairlane 6-string and I'm still the only person I know who has ever even HEARD of a Fairlane 6-string. Not a bad bass by any stretch.

I would still like to get one of those and put it on my old Peavey, if I ever spot one when I've got the money.

if you ever see one, the main reason i bought the bass is because i was looking for one and couldn't find one anywhere. there was that porkproduct company in Canada but i hear they went under.

    there is this site http://www.mydoublewhammy.com/

not a kahler but it is a whammy.

good idea putting it on a bass you don't use alot.

i don't know about MFC's bass but mine is good for about 6 yanks and its out. get when you are getting together with a bunch of "incredible" guitar players and you want to get their motors running buy hitting a couple of harmonics and bending them into the squeal zone. they never give me good looks after that kind of stunt. guess they don't like bass players being able to do that type of stuff. :D

  • Fender Mustang with Racing Stripes?

    MIJ model.

  • I'm new to Talkbass! I couldn't look at all of the unique bass replys without getting a headache, but I did not see a Roscoe mentioned anywhere! I have a left handed Roscoe LG3005 (5 string fretted) and absolutely love it! I have tried most of the "boutique" basses you all have. Many are outstanding instruments! I have been playing for about 35 years. The Roscoe, for me, is the perfect weight, size, feel and sound. I could go on and on. I play for my church. We have a VERY tight group! The Roscoe has great punch, slaps well and can fake a fretless very well. Of course, it all just boils down to what works best for you! :hyper: :bassist:

  • I can stroll down to the shop and steal it anytime though :) (but then I got some pretty slabs of wood instead of a bass, I think I'll wait till Pete is finished lol)

  • I think one other person here on TB has a MM clone TBC, but he probably doesn't come here anymore.

Fhod has some TBC's but they're the new ones.

  • Nomadic Herder

I'm using a 3D CAD program called Pro/Engineer (www.ptc.com) for all the modeling.

The meshes are exported to 3D Studio MAX for rendering and animation.

  • As far as I know, I'm the only one with a Ken Lawrence Unity style bass. I know Dan Knowlton has a Brase, but that's the only other Ken Lawrence bass on this board that I've ever seen. Oh, and Jean's 11-string that's being built :p

    www.euskalnet.net/marcoguitars

That used to be Marcus's Awesome bass.

lemme help you out "bajo" means "low" in spanish and is what they call a bass

  • I am pretty sure that nobody else here owns a Westone Quantum.

    http://www.luciddreamer.net/images/Westone%20Quantum1.jpg

And I am positive nobody else has an Electra-Westone Spectrum fretless.

    http://www.luciddreamer.net/images/Electra%20Westone%20Spectrum%20front1.jpg

  • I think this bass is pretty unique, seeing as I made it..:) Some of you have seen it before, but I'll show it again...

    http://albums.photopoint.com/j/View?u=1249055&a=9230921&p=43043963

Walnut body, 3 EMG's, Schaller tuners, and on-off toggles for each pickup with a volume control for each and a phase switch with one master tone control... Pretty freakish, eh? :D
